wanting to initiate conversation with someone but only having one small thing to say
What?! No way! But it was so bad! If there’s a place to watch it I totally will.
you can be a fan of a show and point out its flaws
you can enjoy something and still criticize it
discussing issues which are necessary to be talked about is as much part of a fandom as anything else and has nothing to do with fighting
the idea of a fandom is that you are more than a passive consumer who accepts things mindlessly
idealizing things is unhealthy and gives you a skewed view of reality
I’m glad you enjoy my story rambles! :D
For recent releases … honestly I haven’t seen a lot of the films since Oscar season and hadn’t seen to many that I wanted to see? But I am just barely starting to catch up on the early summer films (notably I haven’t seen Iron Man 3). I thought Star Trek: Into Darkness was entertaining? But I was really sick when I watched it, am not a huge fan of JJ Abrams, and have no knowledge of the original story (embarrassing!!) so I feel really ill-equipped to judge it.
The last film I really fell head-over-heels in love with was Django Unchained which I saw like three times in theaters. 8D;; I thought Argo was great, as was Wreck-it Ralph, but aside from that … honestly this was a year of a whole lot of build up and disappointment! There were some great, great parts in Les Miserables (Anne Hathaway omg) but the combined efforts of Russel Crowe and Tom Hooper’s cinematography nearly killed the film on its own. Martin Freeman IS Bilbo Baggins but the Hobbit was tragically not actually about a hobbit for the most part.
And more recently there was the Great Gatsby … [long sigh] … but I already wrote about that …
Oh, and not an American release, but Evangelion 3.33 was the strangest and most enormous disaster of a film and argh! sigh! All the gay subtext (or even text!!!!!) in the world couldn’t save that movie. :( And Eva 2.0 was so good! Aah!
Sorry this turned into a rant about movies that were decidedly NOT the best. XD I feel like I’ve been watching a lot of good movies recently but they haven’t been recent releases, or they’ve been TV shows. Speaking of which: Just go watch Hannibal okay. HANNIBAL. GO. NOW.
Oh also I saw The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki last weekend and really enjoyed it! I think there were some issues in the first and third act but that god damned director has such a unique and charming way of telling stories!
You’re right, it totally does! :O Dangit Brad Bird, why are your movies always the best movies? (Pretty sure Ratatouille doesn’t pass, but he wasn’t the director on that one initially, so eh.)
Knowing how much fandom!tumblr loves anticipating and fangirling over new animated films, I’m surprised to realize that I don’t think I’ve … ever seen so much as a GIFset in reference to Epic?
I saw it over the weekend with a friend and Catherine and I certainly have a lot of thoughts about it which I will definitely be vomiting onto the internet in just a moment, but I’m curious to know what anyone else thought of the film? Most casual references I’ve seen to the film cast it as “basically just Ferngully” but I haven’t really talked with many animation fans about it so I am curious! What did you think??
Okay now here’s me being a know-it-all:
